Understanding Low Self-Esteem and Imposter Syndrome
Everyone carries a narrative about themselves—crafted from personal experiences or inherited beliefs—that we often accept as reality without challenge. Low self-esteem can arise when we compare our worth to unrealistic standards, such as the unique situations and abilities of others. This skewed self-perception is often intensified by feelings of imposter syndrome, where you may doubt your accomplishments and fear being exposed as a fraud. Constant rumination and letting emotions dictate our actions further complicate this struggle.

Hi, I'm Jen
Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy in Strathmore, Melbourne
Navigating through low self-esteem can be a deeply challenging experience, and my own journey with self-doubt began in my teens and extended into my twenties. Even now, I still encounter moments of imposter syndrome, but I have learned effective strategies to manage it.
As a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Strategic Psychotherapist trained by Gordon Young, a second-generation student of the renowned American psychologist and psychiatrist Milton Erickson, I bring a wealth of knowledge and personal insight to my practice. My background in business and over two decades in the television industry have enriched my understanding of the pressures and self-judgment many people face.
Having experienced the impact of low self-esteem and imposter syndrome firsthand, I deeply understand how it can lead to excessive rumination, globalised thinking, and a persistent feeling of not being good enough. These challenges often result in inaccurate self-assessments, avoidance of situations, and a critical inner voice that undermines your self-worth.
As a proud mother of two, I also appreciate the complexities and pressures that can contribute to these feelings. My mission is to help you build a more positive self-image, challenge negative thought patterns, and gain clarity on your true capabilities and worth.
In our work together, I am committed to providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment where we can explore and address your unique challenges. We’ll develop a personalised plan to help you uncover and accurately recognise your unique strengths and abilities. Everyone has them, even if they might seem elusive at first.
If you’re ready to embark on a journey toward reclaiming your self-esteem and achieving a more fulfilling life, I’m here to support you every step of the way. Let’s work together to uncover all that you can be and step towards a path of growth and self-achievement.

You do not need to spend a lot of time regurgitating your life story over and over again. We look at what you are doing, assess how to interrupt it, and hypnotically install an interruption to that changes the way you experience and manage your pain. Many people get significant results after just a couple of sessions, and get great results after just 6 sessions. Don’t waste another day. There is a cost to therapy, and there is a cost to not doing the therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not sure yet? Here are the answers to some common questions
Clinical Hypnotherapy is a transformative practice that uses hypnosis to reach beyond the conscious mind, where we often encounter self-imposed barriers. By bypassing these limitations, we can delve directly into the unconscious mind to facilitate significant change. In a state of focused attention, you’ll find it easier to ignore external distractions and embrace tailored suggestions that align with your specific goals. This method is not only safe but also allows you to remain fully aware and in control throughout the process. Many describe the experience as being in a relaxed state where they are present yet feel an intriguing sense of detachment—perfect for fostering personal growth.
Strategic psychotherapy is a focused, goal-driven approach that emphasises identifying and achieving specific therapeutic aims. Rather than delving deeply into the reasons behind a problem, it prioritises where you want to go. Understanding the root of a challenge may not lead to solutions; instead, concentrating on how to address the issue enables us to formulate effective strategies for lasting change.
- Problem-solving focus: This approach targets issues or symptoms that clients wish to resolve, without requiring an exhaustive exploration of their life history.
- Collaborative approach: The therapist and client partner to establish clear, attainable goals, crafting strategies together. While the therapist guides the process, the client remains the expert on their own challenges.
- Directive techniques: A range of direct suggestions, assignments, and tasks are utilised to facilitate progress toward achieving goals.
- Flexibility: Therapists adjust their methods based on each client’s unique responses and progress, ensuring a tailored experience.
Strategic psychotherapy integrates various therapeutic models, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and brief therapeutic techniques. Its main aim is to empower clients with practical tools and strategies to effectively manage their concerns.
Anyone seeking to break free from the barriers that hold them back in life can find value in this approach. If you’re weary of endlessly discussing your issues without seeing tangible results, and you’re ready to take actionable steps toward change, this therapy could be the right fit for you. It’s designed for those who are motivated to move forward, embrace practical strategies, and achieve their goals—transforming their challenges into opportunities for growth.
During your first therapy session, we’ll explore the reasons that brought you to seek help and identify your treatment goals. We’ll discuss your medical history and any current challenges you may be facing. Together, we’ll create a personalised plan that aligns with your objectives and sets the stage for your therapeutic journey.

If you’re looking for a hypnotherapist who blends modern practices with a focus on outcomes, let’s discuss how I can help you reach your goals.
The frequency of your therapy sessions will be based on your unique needs and aspirations. Many clients attend weekly, while others may find less frequent visits more suitable. Together, we will establish a personalised plan that aligns with your goals. As this approach emphasises results, extended therapy over long periods is generally unnecessary.
It’s important to remember that there’s no correct way to experience hypnosis. Although some people think that a deeper state of relaxation is required for optimal results, this is a misconception. The success of your session is based on your openness and active participation in the experience, not solely on how relaxed you feel. You can still benefit from the process even if you don’t reach a profound state of relaxation.
During a hypnosis session, you can expect the following steps:
- Induction: The session begins with an induction phase, where you’ll be gently led into a relaxed hypnotic state. This often includes focusing on your internal breath and physical sensations, allowing thoughts to come and go, while trusting that your subconscious knows how to guide you.
- Suggestions: Once in this relaxed state, you will receive gentle suggestions tailored to your goals. You’ll learn to take charge of your thoughts and recognise what is within your control. This holistic approach aims to cultivate a sense of clarity and empowerment, reinforcing the idea that meaningful change is within reach.
- Emerging from Hypnosis: At the end of the session, after absorbing the important insights, you will be softly guided back to full awareness, feeling centred and present.
Hypnosis is definitely not like sleeping. During hypnosis, you experience a profound sense of relaxation combined with focused attention. You remain fully conscious and aware of your surroundings, making it a unique state distinct from sleep.
No, clinical hypnosis is not like the theatrical performances you see in movies or on stage. It is a legitimate form of therapy often integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan alongside traditional approaches. You cannot be made to do anything against your will, and you won’t disclose any secrets you want to keep private. While hypnosis can enhance your ability to absorb suggestions, it does not control your actions or force you into any experiences you don’t choose to have.
